What is Cabinet Refacing?
Cabinet refacing is the process of taking the existing cabinet boxes and applying a new wood or wood veneer (RTF) skin to the sides and face of the cabinet boxes. Refacing also includes installing new custom-made door and drawer fronts, as well as installing new drawer boxes and hardware.
Why choose refacing over a complete remodel?
Cabinet refacing is a fast and economical way to make your old out-of-date kitchen, bath or laundry room virtually look like new again. Consider these advantages of cabinet refacing vs. a full cabinet replacement:
Refacing costs are about 1/3 of the costs of a full cabinet replacement.
Refacing is fast – installation can take as little as 3-4 days.
Refacing is less disruptive. A full replacement can involve removal of old cabinets, counter tops, appliances, and sometimes flooring – which risks damage to the existing space and could mean losing the use of your room for as long as 4-6 weeks.
Refacing, in most cases, does not require a remodeling permit – as opposed to a full remodel where plumbing and electrical work may require permits.
Refacing is a “greener” option – by reusing the existing cabinet boxes, there’s less waste.
